‘Sympathetic Joints’ is a continuation of the studio’s extensive research into the possibilities of fabric-formed concrete, and its vaguely bodily forms.  Here, this method is applied as a re-thinking of joinery, wherein carefully-formed concrete blobs act as nail, screw, glue, or clamp.


To achieve this, the fluidity and weight of concrete are utilized to bridge the gap between leg and ground, and leg and tabletop.  While the massive concrete bases swallow the legs and anchor them to the ground, the removable joint pieces affectionately embrace the tabletops and bind them to their legs.  


The results are unique objects born out of a moment, out of a sympathetic bond between the raw mass of concrete and the lightness of acrylic; between the fluidly organic and the purely geometric.
